I've always been drawn to water. The ocean is my happy place, but almost any body of water brings me inner peace. Great Hammock Beach in Old Saybrook, CT is a very special spot for me and my family. The unique sandbars in this area of Old Saybrook are my absolute favorite places to walk and take pictures. Additionally, the sunsets from this beach are phenomenal. I've travelled to some of the "most beautiful beaches" in the world and still haven't seen more gorgeous sunsets than I have experienced here. In the first series of pictures, I used the editing tools to brighten the pictures and make the colors look more true to life (I swear, the colors are THAT amazing in person!).

A question about the first picture; is there a better way I could have brought out the reflection of the clouds in the bottom of the picture? Or should I have cropped it more?

My question in the final Old Saybrook photo: is there a way to make the moon in the upper righthand corner brighter? I couldn't figure that out.

Finally, I edited a photo I took of a jellyfish at the Mystic Aquarium. The raw photo is so gorgeous on its own, but I was curious to see if I could use Photoshop to bring out more details of the jellyfish.

  1. Wow! The old Saybrook water shots are amazing. (For other members of the class, Heather is auditing the class so she gets to submit anything for comment ) I did some edits and placed them in your drive https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/15yt2Db1mATwtK09RR8xfCxCbbGkOdFPK For the top one, I straightened the horizon, opened up the foreground, darkened the sky and basically balanced things up using feathered selections and levels in Photoshop. For the next on down, again I balnced sky and water, opened up some of the foreground, got rid of the excess grees, thus warming it up in keeping with the warm tones of the sunset. For the bottom one, I balanced it left and right, enhanced the moon, opened up the fooreground, increased the contrast in the sky, etc. That one is amazing with the bouys leading the eye into the focal point of gorgeous light.
